Blockheads ~ Block 42

Coming and going.  Is that how you feel right now?  So many things to do… not nearly enough time to do everything you think you should get done… and all you really want to do is curl up in front of a warm sewing machine.  (Or maybe that’s just me.)

This week’s block is Turnstile… aka “coming and going”.  The beautiful block above is Jan Patek’s – it’s made with her beautiful Coral Bells collection.  Jan has been having a few computer issues this week so she sent me a picture of her block “just in case” they’re not resolved by today.

This is Tammy’s block – the prints are from Jo Morton’s Timeless and the background is from a 3 Sisters collection.  Because she loves tiny piecing, and because she had a few leftover pieces…

How perfect is the mini?  It’s tiny – 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″.  And it’s adorable.

For the blue Reproduction block, the dark blue print is from Alice’s Scrapbag by Barbara Brackman and the light blue and background are from Snowberry by 3 Sisters.

For the Figgy block, I had a hard time following the directions.  (After forty-two weeks, I’m sure you’re not surprised by that.)

I substituted half-triangle squares for the flying geese – they finish at 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″.  (Cut the squares at 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″. Or cut them a skosh bigger and trim them to measure 2″ x 2″ after piecing.)

Question of the Week ~ How many quilts-projects did you make this year?  How many were for “work”?  How many were “just for fun”?

At least sixteen.

Everything shown here was for the Cake Mixes and Cupcakes – I kept getting these ideas.  There were also several bags, pillows, quilts and other things but I seem to lose count of what they were.  Or can’t show you some of what I’ve finished.  Do pincushions count?  I made a few of those.

While I can and do use most of what I make/sew for work, many of the projects are also “just for fun” too.

Oops.  I answered next week’s question… I’ll answer this one next week.  Coming and going… it appears to be a theme for me this week.

Just in case you missed it – CLICK HERE for the link to Block 42 – Turnstile.

Don’t forget that there is a Blockheads Archive with links to all of the published blocks and blog posts.

That’s it for today, December 20.  Be sure to visit Lisa, Lynne, Betsy, Jo and Jan to see their blocks and what other good things they might have made:

And don’t miss the blocks being posted to #modablockheads on Instagram and Facebook.  The colors, styles of fabric and block variations are wonderful.

If you’re not already a member, you can still join the Moda Blockheads Facebook group.  It’s a busy group with lots of tips, suggestions and support.

Happy Blockhead Wednesday!

  1. i am curious about the quilt block holder shown in the photo ( the one holding Jan Patek’s block). Have never seen one of these and would like to know where to purchase a few as gifts. Thanks!

  2. Your blocks are beautiful! I love the star and whirligig designs. So happy this week! I am behind more blocks than I care to share, but I am trying to catch up. Graduate school takes priority over quilting. But I do have to get my quilting/creative fix every once in awhile to stay sane!

  3. Thank you for this sweet and easy block I fall behind with mine and need to make a bunch during the Chirstmas holidays.

  4. Love this block & it goes well with your Yankee Puzzle variation from weeks ago. Now, I need to learn partial seams. I’ve learned so much from the Blockheads project! I’d only quilted for 3 months when I ambitiously began the Blockheads.

  5. Does anyone know if there is going to be directions at the end to finish…or will it be a personal choice
