On the 9th Day of Christmas

Introducing… Hex N More!

What makes this ruler special is that it can cut 4 shapes in 4 sizes!!
The ruler comes with FULL COLOR instructions. I also have posted step by step cutting directions on my blog. (http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/p/hex-n-more.html)
To make things simple, all of the pieces can be cut from strips!

In addition to developing the ruler I also have designed 8 patterns to go with it.

The Tasty Table Runner Pattern is so easy that I’ve made it three times already! The latest one that I made features Simply Color by V&Co.
I used one of the Ombre fabrics for the binding & love the results!

Here is Lotus in Lucy’s Crab Shack by Sweetwater
There are two pillow patterns that use the Hex N More. Jawbreaker shown on the left in Marmalade by Bonnie & Camille. Candy Dish on the right shown in Lucy’s Crab Shack by Sweetwater.

Here are the 16 pieces you can cut with the Hex N More.
Green Hexagons – 2″, 4″, 6″ & 8″

Red 60° Triangles – 1″, 2″, 3″ & 4″

Blue Half Hexagons – 2″, 4″, 6″ & 8″

Purple Jewels – 3″, 6″, 9″ & 12″

Each of the largest size shapes fit together perfectly.

The same is true about the medium shapes…

…the small shapes

…and the baby shapes.
All of the pieces have a 1/4″ seam.
 The possibilities are endless!

  3. This is the gadget of the year, it seems. I’m seeing more and more patterns using this template and I’d love to have it arrive at my house!

  4. I would love to have this ruler to make some of Julie’s great patterns! Seems that she has invented a ruler that simplifies cutting a bunch of shapes.

  5. I cannot find this ruler in our quilt stores. I have tried to make my own templates, but hexies are the hardest to get perfect. This ruler would be just what I need. Hexagons make great coasters. Fun stuff .

  6. Oh Santa! You know how much I want this ruler! I would love this in my stocking because I won’t buy it myself. Of course, I didn’t put it on my wishlist, even though it was something that I REALLY wanted.

  7. Julie is so talented and I love following her at Jaybird Quilts. Triangles & Squares are all right but to make hexi’s and diamonds would be great. Afraid to go down that path with this I’d be able to attempt it easier. Thanks for the chance.

  8. Dear Santa, I want the Hex and More ruler because it like so much fun and just imagine the quilts I could make with it. Take care and God bless, Cory

  9. Santa dear, I would really love this Hex and more ruler under my tree this year because I have always been intimidated by hexagons and such. If I got this ruler, I could make the most amazing projects.

  10. Wow !! That looks like a must have new ruler to experiment with in 2013. Santa I would love that in my stocking, might even stitch a new hexagon stocking for next year if I win.

  11. I want Santa to put this in my stocking (please) so that I can play with the endless possibilities that Julie talks about. It seems like a truly useful and amazing tool

  12. Would absolutely love this ruler! I’m starting a hexie quilt and I can’t draw them at all (they all look drunk, which stops being amusing pretty quickly) so this would help me unbelievably!

  13. Finally a ruler to all these shapes from strips!! I’ve been wanting to explore quilts using 60 deg triangles and she even has patterns too! Santa, please leave this ruler in my stocking!

  14. Drats! I just bought this ruler a couple of weeks ago. I saw the patterns (which I haven’t purchased yet) and fell in love with them. Whoever wins this will be lucky, for sure!

  15. This is so clever, just what I need! I love that you can make all sizes and they fit within one another, endless possibilities! I could use some new shapes in my work.

  16. Wow! Julie’s ruler will do it all! I think I could even make my tumbler quilt using that ruler. So very versatile, and the directions look awesome. Here’s hoping. Kristy

  17. I have a pattern in my head that requires hexagons -and I have been stalling because of the math involved in figuring out the size and the little triangles… this would help bring my idea to reality!

  18. Santa knows I’m a bit of a cotton-headed ninnymuggins when it comes to cutting template shapes. This ruler would REALLY help, especially since it can use jelly rolls. He’s dropped a couple of those in my stocking in years past.

  19. Ooh! I would love to have one of these rulers since I have been wanting to make a hexie quilt for a long time now. I even took a class on the English Paper Piecing, but that takes too long. 🙂 This would be much quicker!

  23. Dear Santa, I’ve been a good girl this year and would love to have this ruler in my stocking so my Christmas will be complete. Julie’s patterns are in my closet with fabric and the only thing missing is the ruler! Thank you! Cookies are waiting for you on the mantle!

  24. After recently falling in love with my Dresden ruler, I now realize how awesome these little rulers are. I would love to own this one, too!

  25. I would love to have this ruler -I’d never run out of possible quilt designs. Also, I really like hexagon quilts, but I don’t like using a cardboard template to cut them out.

  26. I’m a Julie Herman fan. I’ve made 3 of her quilts, and would like to make some of her new patterns with a hexie theme. All I need is one of there rulers!!

  30. I would like this ruler because I think it would be fun and a great learning experience with something wonderful and very modern to show for using it. Thank you for this great giveaway.

Have a super great sewing and stitching day!

  31. Since Santa will be coming to our house this year to visit our 9 month old Granddaughter who is living with us temporarily, it would surely save him a trip elsewhere.

I already have Julie’s book, but I do not have this tool which would make using her patterns from the book SO much more easy to create. I have this on my wish list already so being able to remove this means I would get another goodie from my list too.

  32. I love hexies and this ruler would be so handy for cutting my pieces. And we all know we can never have too many rulers…right? 😉

  33. I signed up for the toes in the sand bom through the fat quarter shop and need this ruler. I was going to buy it after the first of the year but the opportunity to win it is wonderful. So you see, I need to win this giveaway….

  35. Dear Santa: I would love to find this Hex and More ruler in my stocking, so I can make cool pieced quilts and table runners for my friends. Thanks!

  36. Working with hexie shapes is something I’ve never done. Winning this giveaway would be a great incentive to make some really neat designs. Thanks sew much for this chance to win! 🙂

  37. Santa should put this in my stocking because it is number one on the Christmas list I gave my hubs. He would never step foot in my LQS to buy it so I know I won’t get it unless I win it or buy it for myself after Christmas.

  38. I would LOVE to get one of these rulers! I am a very traditional minded quilter and need a tool like this to help me break out of my box!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  39. I love all of the patterns that julie has made for use with this ruler and I’ve signed up for the Toes in the Sand 12 month Block of the Month and I’m really excited about that one.

  40. Without a doubt, the most versatile ruler I have ever seen. What lucky person will Santa give this to this year? Ooooooooooooh! I hope it is me!!!

  41. They say that variety is the spice of life, and clearly with this ruler there would never be a lack of variety or creativity in the sewing room! Thanks for the giveaway, I would be thrilled to add this to my toolkit!

  42. I almost bought this the other day because I have had an idea for a quilt using this ruler. But I decided I still had to much on my plate right now. I would love to win this!

  43. Thank you! & Merry Christmas. Love the patterns and they are the cat’s meow to get the piles of scraps busted that are accumulating. Totally love that ruler!! THANK YOU!!! ♥

  44. Wow I love this cutting gadget. I saw it a few months ago in a magazine and have not been able to locate it locally. With this I might be able to step out of my comfort zone and actually try to make something with Hexes.

  45. What an amazing ruler. I’d love to find this in my Christmas stocking. Julie has designed some great patterns, the table runner is my favorite.

  46. I already bought me one of these rulers–haven’t had time to use it yet, but have the fabric all picked out–can’t wait to start cutting! The Toes in the Sand looks great!

  47. Oh Santa, I would definitely want to find one of the lovely rulers in my stocking. I have been wanting one of these for quite awhile. I love Julie’s patterns and would love to make some of them, if I found this in my stocking.

  48. i’d love to make something with hexies that are machine stitched. i’ve already done the hand-stitched ones. and you can’t have too many rulers

  49. Santa must be sick of me by now but I do really want the hex n more ruler. Then of course I would need all the patterns too.

  50. I don’t think Santa is paying any attention to me this year. BUT..Santa if you are, could you please send me one of the Hex N More(just 1 will do, I don’t want to be greedy or anything) I can cut triangles but I really need some help to cut anything more difficult. Santa, thanks for listening.

  51. I have been wanting to try hexes because everyone that does is ADDICTED to them! What an easy way to make them! Please , Santa, leave me this prize so I can get addicted, too!

  52. Oh ooh how I’ve been eyeing this ruler!!!!! The quilts runners cozies designs that are in my head with that ruler!!! Doesn’t help having a hexie fetish.

  54. Wow! I want one of these so badly and one of the top three things on my To Do list for 2013 is to create quilted projects with hexies!!! This would be so cool to win!! Thanks!

  55. Eeep eeep .. I love what I’ve seen from this ruler. I’m not only in terrible love with triangles but I can easily see a love with hexi’s too. Thanks for the change to play with this!

Oh and Santa I really have been good!

  56. The Hex ‘n More Ruler has been on my wishlist for a while! I love the patterns that Julie has developed for this ruler, and I am a total notions nerd, too.

  57. Dear Santa. I would love this because I’ve been wanting to try Julies patterns for this ruler for so long, they look so much fun to make! But I can’t justify buying yet another ruler right now when I barely have time to quilt ^^

  58. Oh Moda Santa…I adore Julie Herman’s designs, and have been eyeing this ruler for months since she debuted it on her blog! I don’t have any “fun” rulers. Just the basic ones used for measuring and squaring up fabric. I promise to use it and make some cool gifts for others. 🙂

  59. Follow this blog and Julie’s, love her patterns and have really wanted this ruler since I was it on her website. Thanks for the chance

  60. I would absolutely LOVE to win this ruler. Hexagons are the one sewing project I can do at night after my little girls are in bed, and having this ruler would make the prep work so much easier!

  61. The first quilt I made 30 years ago as a teenager was hexagons and I’ve fallen in love with them all over again. Santa I have been a good girl.

  62. Oh, is it too late to enter? Hexagons are my most favorite thing to make and would love to win this template!
    thanks for the chance!
